Quote for the week
I know it hasn’t quite been a week yet, but I wanted to post this classic before I forgot. It’s another one from Fundies Say the Darndest Things, because surprisingly often, they say the darndest things about SCIENCE.

“One of the most basic laws in the universe is the Second Law of Thermodynamics. This states that as time goes by, entropy in an environment will increase. Evolution argues differently against a law that is accepted EVERYWHERE BY EVERYONE. Evolution says that we started out simple, and over time became more complex. That just isn’t possible: UNLESS there is a giant outside source of energy supplying the Earth with huge amounts of energy. If there were such a source, scientists would certainly know about it. Oh yes, that’s one of my favourite bonkers creationist comments of all time. You wonder if the person who wrote it was subtly taking the piss.

This is made all the more poignant in that:
* Jehovah started out life as the sun god. I’ve read an argument that Hanukah was a created festival designed to obscure references to Jehovah’s solar past. Jehovah part-times as the Christian God on his days off.
* Jesus Christ is a carbon copy of Mithras. Guess what? He’s a sun god.
* Mithras himself lends much of his life story to Adonis. He’s was a sun godlet.
* The Egyptians worshipped Ra, another sun god. Ra is probably where the “born in a stable” thing came from.
So the berk posting that quote not only failed to account for an energy source worth approx 1kW/m2 average, but he even worships the bloody thing!

Very nice FGR! I knew about Ra and Mithras of course but not about Jehovah.
I would like to think he was being sarcastic, but I’ve read enough of these things that this is depressingly likely to be serious. The people on FSTDT are pretty good at flushing out Poe’s, and they are disqualified from winning awards, so…
